My Father's 93rd Birthday week!

Two special birthdays this week, my youngest child Lahni Zollinger turned 38 this week on the 27th and my Dad turned 93 on the 28th! I was complaining about being old and my Dad told me I couldn't complain until I had children in their 70's! I told Lahni I was feeling old now that my youngest is approaching 40 ... and she responded with, "yeah now I'm old too!" It was a fun week, but I will try not to take too long.

Very first picture is my Dad along with our grand-niece Josie Bendall who shares Dads birthday !! Look @ those birthday desserts!!

My Pops on his 93rd birthday!!!

BELOW: A demolition project happening across the street from us. Safety standards are a little more relaxed here!

BELOW: the ocean is almost never "angry" here! Usually quiet and calm and often down right glass-like. This week a storm blew through and we saw some water that was coming up over the sea wall. Nothing scary but unusual and cool to look at.

BELOW: I never tire of seeing what people can fit onto a tricycle! This was obviously a BIG shopping day & possibly even a moving day for the passenger!

BELOW: this was a picture of someone's home. A beautiful drive up in a mountainous, jungle area and this is NOT an uncommon home site. Many people here live well under what we would consider a poverty level but are healthy and happy!

BELOW: This is where we went to church today. This is a building on the site of a family home in that area. They are starting a group and there were 44 members in attendance. Most have been traveling an hour or more to get to a building farther away and are very excited to be starting up their own group. The meeting was great, and we sang hymns and had great talks and really enjoyed interacting with the local members. Again, many beautiful children in the congregation. We were there to try to find a missionary apartment closer to where the members live so someday there can be a branch and maybe even an official building! As you can see the building is rather humble, but church was wonderful and consisted anywhere in the world we attend. They love our Savior just as much in this humble building as they do in the lovely, big churches in many other places.

BELOW: Here is one of the family we attended church with today and who helped us look for apartments after the meetings. They were VERY sweet, and we appreciated their ability to understand/speak English while also being fluent in the Cebuano language which helped us a LOT!

BELOW: I love these open-air buildings and the how the dogs come in during meetings to take naps. She was napping peacefully just a few feet away!

BELOW: And last but NOT lease, as October comes up, I just had to mention our grandson Jeffrey and his upcoming marriage to our niece Bailey Holland. You can see they are very happy and in love AND... we are so happy for them! Our biggest regret is that we are more than 7,000 miles away with another 10 months left in our mission work and will have to miss the wedding. At least we will home before they start our great-grandchildren legacy!! Bailey and Jeffrey - we love you and congratulate you on your upcoming wedding!
